What is a magnetic door catcher?
I’m sure you might have experienced a situation where your door closed with a loud thud especially on a windy day. Or probably have a door handle and lock that always wears out and needs to be changed.
Well, that’s what a door catch prevents.
A door catch is a fitting attached to a door – especially those without a lock – to keep it closed and unaffected by air or wind. Hence, your sleeping children are not awoken at night by fearful and loud door thuds. In offices, workers are not distracted by the slamming of the doors.
It consists of a magnet that lies within a steel encasement that is fitted to the door while the strike plate – a metallic strip – is attached to the door frame or inside of the cabinet door.
Door catches are of different types. They are:
- Ball type
- Roller type
- Magnet type
- Slide catch
- Door holder type.

What is a door catch used for?
In general, magnetic door catchers are used to securely hold doors in place and eliminate the noise that’s generated when one tries to open them or close them.
A recent trend in home interior design, is concealed or hidden doors. These doors do not have handles and hence are somewhat hidden.
For internal doors that need to be concealed, designers use magnetic door catches instead of a door handle. Hence, the door closes silently without a fuss.
Aside from doors, catches are also used in kitchen cabinets, storage solutions, etc. In general, it can be fixed in any place where a door is needed.
